Black locust is an excellent bow wood, though not as well known to non bowyers as osage or yew. It has a beautiful color and makes an excellent bow, if tiller is carefully managed. Some people consider it harder to work with than osage (the bow wood it is most similar to) because it may develop chrysals in areas that are overstressed. I personally have only run into this problem on one occasion, when I was really pushing the envelope to see what I could do with the wood.
I harvest my own black locust, so am able to offer it without reflecting the shipping cost of an osage or yew stave.
